What is a Monoprice Buttset?
A Buttset is a device used by telephone technicians, installers, and maintenance personnel while installing and testing local telephone lines. It is also called the “Lineman’s test kit”. It looks like a normal telephone handset. This telecommunication test set is used mainly to detect sounds, transmission errors and to identify a wide range of voice-line issues.
How does it work?
The buttset has different components, the lead hooks which can be connected to the telephone poles, the base hook which can be detached from the buttset and used to connect the cable from the customer’s telephone in order to check for errors or transmission issues.
It has dial function and can be set to ring mode which allows the technician to make a call to the customer. A talk mode is available to connect you to the live connection. In this mode, you can hear and check the dial tone. You can also alternate between dial and pulse mode too. A metal hook is also provided to carry it around easily.
What is it needed for?
The Monoprice Buttset is a handy tool that the technicians can use at the worksite. It helps to test the functionality of the lines. The technician can monitor an active call, answer incoming calls, and make outgoing calls. It also aids to make calls to the central office to conduct tests, get instructions, and also call the customer line to check if the corrections are implemented.
Common tests can be conducted which include checking for dial tone, using an automatic number announcement circuit to identify the line, and using a ringback number.
